Upcoming visible passes over Fort Washington: local times, brightness, and where to look.
Amateur radio brings us together. We help operators build their skills, get on the air, and put reliable communications to work for our community.
We welcome experienced operators, less experienced hams, and people curious about amateur radio.
Provide radio coverage across the area, encourage members and future members to participate on the air, and support reliable alternate communications. Help less experienced hams learn practical radio techniques.
Mentor and train youth groups, law enforcement, hikers, boaters, fishermen, and anyone interested in radio communications. Teach operating techniques and licensing requirements while helping junior members become better operators.
Support the community through licensing exams, merit badge counseling, local hamfests, DX and fox-hunt contests, repeater services, and long-distance HF and EchoLink nets.
Our activities combine practical experience, community support, and the enjoyment of exploring radio together.
We work closely with PGARES on hospital-related activities, with strong club participation at Fort Washington Medical Center during hospital drills. Members also support other events when needed.
We conduct quarterly radio fox hunts and coordinate with regular fox-hunt enthusiasts in the Maryland–DC area. These hidden-transmitter hunts bring direction-finding skills into the field.
We dedicate time to Field Day, Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend, and Kids Day—opportunities to operate, learn, and share amateur radio with others.
Some of our members are astronomers. Their interests broaden our conversations and connect our enthusiasm for radio with the wider world of science.
A starting point for current members and anyone taking their first steps into amateur radio.
Meet us on the air: Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on 28.455 MHz.
Additional event dates will be posted here as they become available.
Our education mission includes mentoring, operating techniques, and an introduction to licensing requirements. You can begin learning about radio before becoming a licensed operator.
A radio fox hunt is a search for a hidden transmitter using radio direction-finding techniques. Our club conducts these activities quarterly with other enthusiasts in the Maryland–DC area.
Members support hospital communications drills with PGARES, help with events when needed, and share radio knowledge through education and service activities.
Have a question about the club, membership, or our activities? We’d love to hear from you.
